1st Annual Plein Air Convention - My Impressions - I invite you to post Yours

Impressions on the 1st Annual Plein Air Convention I attended between April 12 and 15, 2012

From April 12 to 15, 2012, I attended the 1st Annual Plein Air convention in Las Vegas. It went far beyond my expectations. What a great event for plein air painters and all artists!

On the first day, we had a triple demonstration from three well known artist: Alexey Steele, Jeremy Lipking, and Steve Pro. They each painted a portrait from a model over a period of 2 hours. What great pleasure to be able to see the progress of their paintings. Each of these great artist had its own unique approach to painting from the model and we were able to compare and appreciate the differencesé

I was extreemly impressed to see the final products Three beautiful paintings yet so different.

Painting by Alexey Steele: very refined and in the style of the Russian Masters. Alexey gave an excellent speach on the philosophy behind his approach. What a great show. If you ever have a chance ot see Alexey's demonstration, it is worth seeing!

Painting by Jeremy Lipking: an approach I have never seen before. Until the last half hours, the chin was still not in place. He was working on the other parts of the face an hair. In the end, the whole portrait is full of passion. The lady's looks at peace although she was posing for 2 hours (almost non-stop).

Painting by Steve Pro: from large to small shapes. Steve's approach showed how placing the larger shadows and lights, then refining these shapes into detail works. The result was splendid.
